Enugu - A FEDERAL High Court sitting in Enugu yesterday refused to grant bail to 22 members of the Movement for the Actualisation of Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) who were arraigned by the police for allegedly conspiring to wage war against the country.Those docked were Mary Ernest Nwabuizu, Aloy Onyelonu, Kanayo Chukwu Ogu, Brother Hyginus, Ezeugwu Christian, Pius Anya, Ferdinand Ezere, Happiness Ejehu, Martins Nnadi, Eze Oliver and Benjamin Eze. Others are Allwell Orjiugo, Emeka Eze, Chinedu Ugwu, Ernest Aleke, Christian Okoro, Ambrose Okechukwu, Silas Agbo, Kingsley Ugwuanyi, James Omeke, Okwudili Okonkwo and Ndubuisi Ugwu.11/29/2002
Enugu - No fewer than 22 activists of the Movement for the Actualisation of Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) were yesterday docked at a Federal High Court, Enugu for alleged conspiracy to wage war against the country. After the one count charge, which lumped the alleged offences together, was individually read out to the accused for their plea, all the accused pleaded not guilty to the charge.11/18/2002
An Abuja Senior Magistrate's Court last Friday ordered the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Tafa Balogun, to release 72 persons allegedly detained by the police in Abuja for belonging to the Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB).11/15/2002
Port-Harcourt - Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) has criticised the decision of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) at the Hague ceding the disputed Bakassi Peninsula to Cameroun. MASSOB in its position made public yesterday regretted the judgement saying "there should be a call for referendum by the Bakassi people to determine where they want to belong, which is the right of people under the United Nations."11/13/2002
Benin City - DIRECTOR of Mobilization of the Movement for the Actualisation of Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB), Mr. Ike Samuel, yesterday alleged that about 3000 members of the movement had been killed by security agents in different parts of the country since 1999.11/06/2002
The leader said trouble began when the DPO, on his way from Obosi to Onitsha, had stopped by MASSOB office and fired several gun shots as members were preparing to go to Okigwe for a meeting with their Chairman, Chief Raph Uwazuruike. According to him, Obuba asked them some questions on why they had gathered and was told that they were not converging for a rally.11/05/2002
Onitsha - THE police have taken over the Onitsha provisional headquarters of the Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) located on the busy Onitsha-Owerri Road. The police action followed a raid on the camp weekend by the police. At least one person claimed to be a member of the group was killed. The police said it was part of the clampdown on militia groups in the country.
