Lagos - TWO protesting members of the Movement for the Actuaslisation of the Sovereign State of Baifra (MASSOB) were yesterday feared dead while eleven others were seriously injured after a clash with a team of mobile policemen at Omilani junction, by Agbebi street, Ijesha- Tedo area of Lagos state. Members of the group numbering over thirty-five, reports said, were mourning the death of their colleagues who were allegedly killed by police during a rally at Okigwe, in Imo state on March 29th, 2003.

Lagos - The Nigeria Police in Lagos, yesterday , arrested 13 people believed to be members of the Movement for Actualisation of Sovereign State of Biafra(MASSOB). The arrest, it was gathered, followed a peaceful procession in Aguda, Surulere, in honour of their member, who was allegedly killed in the Eastern part of the country last month, in a major crackdown by security agents.

News (Lagos) Lagos - Two persons namely Anosike Kelechukwu Anthony and Anosike Ifunaya Susan have been declared wanted by the Lagos State Police Command in connection with their role in the illegal mobilization of youths to cause breach of peace during a MASSOB protest in Okigwe, Imo State, Nigeria recently.

Newswatch (Lagos) Nigeria police earns local and international condemnation for human rights abuses and indiscriminate killings of innocent persons No one expected outright condemnation of the Nigeria police from the United States of America over human rights abuses. Not with repeated claims by Tafa Balogun, inspector-general of police, that the police had improved steadily in combating crimes in the society and enhanced the safety of lives and property. Even though some of the issues raised in the U.S. Department of State "Country reports on Human Rights Practices - 2002," were cases well- known, the verdict came as sad commentary on these claims to success by Balogun.

Abuja - AN Abuja high court has ordered the immediate release of the leader of the Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB), Chief Raph Uwazurike and forty nine (49) others currently under police detention, describing it (their detention) as illegal.

An Abuja High Court has granted 44 MASSOB members (Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra) bail while hearing in the suit has been slated for May 14, 2003. Justice Ishaq Bello, after listening to the submissions of counsel to MASSOB members, Mr. Kevin Emeka Okoro, leading two others, he granted the application to enable the applicants prepare for trial.

IMO State Police Command has warned that it would summarily deal with any person or group of persons who engage in any act capable of disrupting the peace or conduct of the forthcoming general elections. The new Commissioner of Police (CP), Mr Hezekiah Ayuba Dimka, read the riot act at the state police headquarters, Owerri, while briefing newsmen on the recent clash between the police and members of the Movement for the Actualisation of Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB).
