P.M. News (Lagos) T he Anambra State Government said that it has uncovered a plan by the Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) to use the state for the declaration of the state of Biafra. A statement by the Principal Secretary to the Governor, Mr Emmanuel Nwosu, said that the attention of Gov. Chris Ngige had been drawn to the move.

MANY parliamentarians at the Orile Bus-stop were shocked Thursday last week to read that the death toll in the Kano religious riot had risen to 30. And shock was soon to give way to anger as most of those present at the news-stand gathering condemned in the strongest terms all those perceived as being behind the bloody uprising.

Lagos - The smouldering religious and ethnic crises in Plateau State burst penultimate week with killings in Yelwa and Wasse. Reprisal violence erupted in Kano State leading to more deaths and destruction of property. For two consecutive days last week, thousands of angry Muslims took to the streets in Kano, the largest city in northern Nigeria, to protest what they alleged as the killing of more than 600 fellow Muslims in a brutal attack by "Christian gunmen in the town of Yelwa, Plateau State" earlier this month. As a result schools and businesses closed in panic as protesters killed and maimed people, burned cars and businesses owned by Christians. As at Thursday Police confirmed the death of 30 people.

Kaduna - Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB), has asked the South-East geo-political zone to stop the campaign for an Igbo President in 2007. Speaking at a press conference in Kaduna, its Deputy National Director of Mobilisation, Mr Oliver Chidozie, said the Igbo should channel their energy and resources towards the actualisation of a Biafra State.

Movement for the Actualization of Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) has alleged fresh plan by the Federal Government to eliminate some top members of the group. Deputy Director of Information MASSOB, Comrade Uchenna Madu who was recently released from detention with 20 other members of the group on their way to Okigwe in Imo state for a meeting, also alleged that the police in Asaba, Delta State capital killed one of the group chieftains, Chief Emmanuel Enulor in the early hours of Wednesday 5th May 2004 in his house in Asaba.

News (Lagos) Tension is currently mounting in Igbo states of Abia, Imo, Anambra, Enugu and Ebonyi states, following the alleged killing of their kith and kin in Kano, where violence erupted on Tuesday, as Muslim fanatics took to the streets, burning and killing non-indigenes to protest alleged killing of muslims in Yelwa, Plateau State.

Kaduna - ARMED securitymen Sunday invaded the St. Joseph's Catholic Cathedral, Kaduna, arresting some suspected members of the Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) even as police sources' claim that only four persons were nabbed coincided with a pronouncement by the MASSOB leader, Chief Ralph Uwazuruike that he has thrown his weight behind the convocation of a Sovereign National Conference (SNC).

Enugu - THE Ohanaeze Youth Council (OYC), the youth wing of the apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has thrown its weight behind the clamour for an Igbo man to succeed President Olusegun Obasanjo in 2007, saying current moves by the Northern governors to hijack the position is against the popular wish of Nigerians.

Kaduna - A THANKSGIVING service organised by the Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) ended in confusion yesterday at the St Joseph Catholic Church, Kaduna after a combined team of plain clothes policemen and security men invaded the church and arrested about 150 members of MASSOB including its National Director of Works and Transport, Chief Christopher Ifeanyichukwu (Ochiagha).
