Members of the Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra ( MASSOB) have been undergoing many trials and tribulations in different parts of the country. CHRISTOPHER Okafor, one of the 53 members of Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra ( MASSOB) who have been in detention since September last year had a red right eye and injuries on his two hands and legs when Vanguard Features met him at Ikoyi Prison , Lagos last Friday. The fair skinned 22 year old who was said to be the referee of the aborted controversial football match MASSOB organised in Lagos last year, was very restless and could not co-ordinate his speech throughout the encounter with our reporter. On several occasions he shouted at his guide and even challenged his lawyer. But he was repeatedly prevailed upon to calm down by his patient guide who explained that Okafor was no longer mentally stable.

Kaduna - Police in Kaduna State have arraigned 17 members of the Movement for the Actuali-sation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB), before a Chief Magistrate's Court, for alleged treason, conspiracy and unlawful assembly, contrary to Section 410, 411 and 412 of the Penal Code and Section 97 and 107 of the Penal Code.

Lagos - Fifty-three people who participated in an unusual soccer tournament last year in Nigeria's main city, Lagos, are now fighting for dear life. State prosecutors say the tournament, held in the name of a secessionist group, the Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB), amounted to treason. They have demanded the death penalty.

Onitsha - MOVEMENT for the Actualisation of Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB), has raised alarm over the alleged fresh clampdown on its members in Anambra State which led to the arrest of 23 of them last week. Chief provincial administrator for Idemili North, Chief Samuel Edison, told Daily Champion that 19 MASSOB members were arrested at Awada, a suburb of Onitsha at the weekend by men of State Security Services (SSS) from Awka when they were holding a peaceful meeting.

Lagos - IT was wild jubilation yesterday at the Federal High Court, Lagos, as the court presided over by Justice Marcel Awokulehin admitted 53 suspected members of Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB), who were arraigned before the court on the counts of conspiracy and treason, to bail.

Zurich - Zamfara and Kano States top the list of asylum seekers who applied to Swiss government in Zurich for approval. Briefing a team of selected journalists from Nigeria and Ghana yesterday, the officer in charge of migration (Nigeria and Ghana), Mr. Benjamin Fry, said of the 48,057 asylum requests from Africans in the last couple of years, Nigerians were in the majority.
