Lagos - A former minister of health, Dr Ihechukwu Madubuike, has condemned
attemps made by MASSOB to disrupt the national polpulation census in
Isuochi,in Ununneochi Local Government area of Abia State.
Speaking on the development at the weekend, Madubuike commended community and political
Abuja/Lagos - The National Population Commission yesterday said the entire result
of the 2006 national population and housing census would not be made
public until June 6.
Chairman of the commission, Chief Samu'ila Danko Makama said
collation of completed questionnaires and other enumeration materials
would commence immediately today throughout the federation.
The police in Lagos have arrested a suspected member of the Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra for refusing to be enumerated. The 25-year-old suspect, whose name was given as Emmanuel Okorie, was said to have resisted being counted by enumerators at his residence in Oshodi.
Owerri - Amaiyi community in Njaba local government area of Imo State, has
been thrown into mourning following the reported clubbing to death of a
census supervisor and chieftain of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party
(PDP), Mr. Jonathan Onyenagoro, by suspected loyalists of the Movement
for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB).

Lagos - After series of preparations, the much canvassed 2006 national exercise, ended yesterday with milllions of Nigerians testifying to its complete failures. Across the entire six geo-political zones of the country, the entire exercise was accompanied by controversies, allegations of fraud, corruption and foul cry.
Enugu - SOLDIERS from the 82 Division of the Nigerian Army, Enugu have been
deployed in the streets of the Coal City to check further disruption of
the National Population and Housing Census by youths, who unleashed
terror on residents at the take-off of the exercise.
As the national headcount comes to an end today, there are strong
indications that many Nigerians will be left out of the exercise.
Reports from across the states show that most residents who have not
been counted have lost hope of participating in the 2006 census.
Enugu - THE Enugu State Police Command says it arrested 15 persons for
fomenting trouble and harassing census officials across the state since
the census exercise commenced. The police also said some unidentified
persons who were driving around in a bus and discouraging people from
being enumerated in Nkanu area escaped police arrest at Amodu
Awkunanaw, as they abandoned their bus with the inscription, Peace Mass
Transit and fled.
PROBLEMS continued to dog the 2006 National Housing and Population
Census, yesterday, casting doubts on the possibility that the
population yet to be enumerated would be counted within the two-day
extension announced by the Federal Government yesterday.
Enugu - In a bid to curb the spate of violent disruptions of the ongoing 2006 census, soldiers from the 82 Division of the Nigerian Army, Enugu were yesterday deployed to major streets of Enugu to augment the efforts of the police.
