opinion Onitsha - We do not need any background information on Mr. Peter Obi, the Executive Governor of Anambra State. His resilience, sense of justice, humility and capacity for work has become a reference point in Nigeria. Those who knew him were utterly surprised that he entered into murky waters of Nigerian politics. Consensus of opinion is that he is not cut for that, especially considering the nature of intrigues and conspiracies involved in Nigerian politics. But this, they say, is now history.08/25/2006

opinion Lagos - There are instances of legislators who set out to write laws but eventually end up writing themselves into the laws. That was how the effort of some of us to enshrine an aspect of press freedom into the Babangida Constitution suffered set backs from the beginning to the end.08/17/2006
opinion Awka - THERE is no telling that Anambra State has had its fair share of political crisis in the past seven years. While former Governor Chinwoke Mbadinuju ran the Bakassi Boys, his successor Dr. Chris Ngige maintained the Anambra Vigilante Service [AVS].08/09/2006
opinion Awka - RECENTLY, Anambra State has been engulfed in crisis. Essentially, what is at stake is who controls the parks, markets and public places in the State. The constitution made it clear that local government areas should control these places, and that is what is obtainable in other states except Anambra State, precisely Onitsha.08/02/2006
opinion Nnewi - The police are part of our criminal justice system. They are constitutionally invested with the duty of maintenance of law and order. So noble is the work of police that they even prosecute cases in courts, like legal practitioners. Police is highly respected in other climes because of their importance. Without law and order a State will degenerate into anarchy, into a Hobbesian State where might is right and where man will be a beast to his fellow man (Homo homine lupus)08/02/2006
Lagos - Former Political aide to the ex-governor of Anambra State, Hon. Sir Tim Egboka after two months in police custody has said God used the Nigerian press, Directorate of Public Prosecution, the Human Rights Commission and spirited Nigerians to save his life.08/01/2006
opinion Awka - In the wisdom of the church, it usually sets up chaplaincies in important institutions like universities, the armed forces, etc with qualified Catholic Priests to minister to the needs of the people.
