It is a historic moment. A third consecutive elections have been concluded. Umar Yar'Adua, a former university teacher and ASUU member of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) is the President-elect. His running mate is another educationist, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan. Despite the many shortcomings of the general elections and the several yet-to-be-resolved electoral disputes, there is a feeling of much relief among the citizens. In addition to this, there is equally a quiet, yet high expectation and hope and prayer, that the team of Yar'Adua and Jonathan would find solutions to the myriad of problems which confront the nation. Interestingly, the hope is not so much on the PDP but on Yar'Adua as an individual, whose profile seems to suggest to the people that here is a man the people could and should trust.04/20/2007
