The Federal Government has reawareded the abandoned Zik's Mausoleum in Onitsha to a new contractor at the cost of N121 million.The new company, Beton Bau Nigeria Ltd., a foregin firm, has already formally taken over from the firm that had been handling the project and work will soon resume at the site.The new contractor was said to have posted a bond for 30 per cent of the sum and has moved to collect mobilisation and begin work.

Leadership (Abuja) The National Council of State yesterday said it would not allow the establishment of African Command of the United States in Africa, but to work towards the establishment of an African stand-by force by African countries.

Abuja - FEDERAL Government yesterday formerly rejected the hosting of the United States (US) sponsored African High Command (AFRICOM), opting instead for an African Standby Force for the Gullf of Guinea. Government made the position known at the end of the National Council of State (NCS) meeting which was attended by former heads of state, governors and the leadership of the National Assembly.

Enugu - Apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, at the weekend, said the 1999 Constitution is faulty and calls for a fresh one. Ohanaeze said it made the call because its amendment as being championed in some quarters cannot produce a document that will be accepted by all ethnic nationalities in the country.
