According to a release signed by MASSOB's Deputy Director (Information), Comrade Chris Mocha, the sit-at-home order is in line with the celebration of its 41st independence anniversary. "On Thursday, August 28, 2008, MASSOB requires Ndigbo, wherever they are, to observe our annual sit-at-home for fasting and prayers", Mocha stated. It was the considered opinion of MASSOB leadership that their agitation will continue for as long as the continued marginalisation of Nidigbo has become a normal way of life in Nigeria.

Besides, Article 15 (1) and (2) of the UNIVERSAL DECLARATION OF HUMAN RIGHTS of December 10th 1948 made and ratified by all member States of the United Nations including Nigeria states that Every one has the right to a Nationality and No one shall be arbitrarily deprived of his nationality nor denied the right to change his nationality.
