IN the past few weeks two senior Zanu PF members, who are also top government officials, made reckless pronouncements about what is undoubtedly Zimbabwe's hottest political potato after Independence. Vice President John Nkomo and Defence minister Emmerson Mnangagwa, who are senior Zanu PF officials, walked into the Gukurahundi debate and sought to railroad the people of Zimbabwe into believing that the infamous issue is now a closed chapter and those talking about it are merely seeking political mileage.

Enugu - Ikemba Nnewi, Dim Odumegwu Ojukwu, has not been abandoned by his wife, Bianca; the Anambra State Government or the All Peoples Grand Alliance (APGA) as being speculated in the media. National Chairman of APGA, Chief Victor Umeh said this while briefing newsmen in Enugu on the state of health of the former Biafra leader and leader of the party.

The Star (Nairobi)Seven suspected gangsters were shot dead by police officers in separate incidents in the city. Three of the suspects were killed on Friday evening while four lost their lives on Saturday. In the first incident, two suspected gangsters who were found robbing a woman in Industrial Area's Lunga Lunga were shot dead by police officers on patrol. The officers were responding to the woman's screams after the gangsters robbed her of her handbag and attempted to run away. The stolen handbag was recovered from the slain gangsters.

Qaeda's alleged plan to set up a command and control base in Nigeria is creating diplomatic ripples as Nigeria debunked the claim, last week, insisting that country is not a safe haven for anarchist groups. Indications, however, emerged that the pro-jihadist group may have chosen to set up its operational base in Nigeria in its terrorist war with America and the Western countries.

Daily Independent (Lagos)It has become necessary once again to loudly denounce the whispers from prominent members of the Northern power elite before they develop into a major threat to the stability of this country, Nigeria. Every Nigerian citizen should be sufficiently watchful at this time. The history of this country has been loaded with all kinds of manipulation from various power elite for purely selfish reasons. Usually, the power elite have no social responsibility coefficient to their thoughts, words or actions. The national interest is scarcely on their radar. We have all seen them in their various hues lay waste our national resources.

Nairobi - Shiro Keziah Wachira is extremely articulate, almost disarmingly so. She is only 16, but speaks like a person twice her age. The first time one meets her, one is taken aback by her eloquent and coherent speech, devoid of redundancies like "umm", "as in", "like" and "yaani" that characterise a typical Kenyan teenager's speech.
